Founded in 2013 and based in San Francisco, Randall Search conducts recruitments in all areas of nonprofit management, including operations, programs, fundraising, marketing and communications, alumni relations, and human resources. We serve a nationwide clientele.
Since our founding, we have completed over 100 successful searches. We are proud of the diversity of our client base, our success in closing searches and the positive feedback we regularly receive from our nonprofit partners.
At Randall Search, we value our partnership with the nonprofit sector as it addresses the most critical issues facing our world. Our mission remains the same: to ensure that every client has the staff and expertise it needs to grow and impact - positively and tangibly - the communities it serves.
Principal David Randall is guided by his deep understanding of and commitment to the nonprofit community and his years of experience as a recruiter and former advancement professional.
David understands the nonprofit sector from both sides of the hiring line, having held leadership positions in higher education, health care, and environmental fundraising, and as a nonprofit board member and volunteer. Before becoming a recruiter, David worked at some of the country's leading institutions, including Stanford Hospital & Clinics; the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF); Lehigh University; the University of Washington; and Princeton University.
While working in academic and healthcare advancement, David hired a variety of recruiters and served on numerous search committees. Colleagues and search consultants often commented on his ability to identify and assemble strong and productive teams.
Encouraged to go into the recruiting business, David joined a leading nonprofit executive search firm in 2011. His desire to bring niche expertise and a highly personalized experience to his clients became the inspiration and catalyst for the creation of Randall Search in 2013.
David moved to San Francisco in 2000 and is deeply rooted in his community. His involvement in the Bay Area includes volunteering at the San Francisco SPCA, San Francisco-Marin Food Bank, Openhouse, Friends of the Urban Forest, and Friends of McLaren Park. He lives his passion for animal welfare through the lives of his three rescue dogs. Through several Bay Area mentorship programs, he has had the privilege of serving as a coach to mentees seeking to enter the nonprofit sector.
David holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Notre Dame, magna cum laude, and completed graduate study in International Relations at the University of Pennsylvania.
Inclusion and Belonging
We are committed to helping mission-driven organizations build diverse and equity-aware leadership teams and have a strong history of presenting diverse candidate pools in our searches. To date, over 65% of our placed candidates have reflected diverse backgrounds and diverse lived experiences.
At Randall Search, we embrace and respect the full range of social and cultural human differences, including age, gender, disability, ethnicity, gender idenity and expression, race, religion, and sexual orientation. We celebrate that which makes each person unique.
The nonprofit sector is most effective when it reflects the communities it serves. As we work to present you with a diverse slate of candidates, we'll also engage you in a dialogue about your organization’s DEIB commitment and goals and how they are reflected in the values and practices of your organization.
While there is always more to do to advance diversity and inclusion, we embrace that challenge as a critical part of our firm’s mission internally and externally. We commit ourselves to maintaining an inclusive and safe environment and a transparent process where all involved are treated equitably, respectfully, and kindly.
I've known and worked with David for more than a dozen years, both in community service at the board level
and through Randall Search. David has recruited a broad range of mission critical C- and VP-level positions
for us at Homebridge, covering a broad array of leadership including Talent Development, External Affairs,
Finance, Workforce Development, Programs and Operations. I know his work well and trust him to deliver -
and we have never been disappointed. Some of these searches have been extremely difficult, yet he has
approached each with the same openness, positivity and work ethic. He provides wise counsel, professional
insights and informed intuition. We appreciate how much time, thoughtful attention and one-on-one service
we receive working with David. I couldn't recommend him highly enough.
